The European Union stands for community, cohesion and diversity. But how many countries are actually in the EU? What, for example, distinguishes Cyprus? Where exactly is Slovakia? And what does the national flag of Lithuania look like? With this game you can get to know the European Union better and strengthen your sense of identity for the EU.

On the Internet, there are numerous false reports, also called Fake News, which are spread with manipulative intention. This phenomenon has become Scandalization, instrumentalization and dissemination algorithms, especially on social networks, have increased further. Often fake news receive more attention than serious news and give us a feeling of powerlessness. Strengthening our judgment can help us to unmask them. Are you ready to put yourself in the minds of the editors of fake news?

The European Union stands for solidarity and a common understanding of values. It is therefore of the utmost interest to know as much as possible about the direct and indirect neighbors on one's own continent, even if it is only about interesting facts.

The EU is based on a combination of individual interests and solidarity. Sometimes one wins by strengthening others. In Solidarity, you play the representatives of a community of villages. There is a hard winter ahead and food will be scarce for some. It is up to you: Do you show solidarity or do you pursue your own short-term interests?

2 °C is a cooperative game in which you pursue the common goal of replacing all coal-fired power plants and the nuclear power plant with renewable energy suppliers. Your task is to implement the energy turnaround and at the same time meet the demand for electricity - not a simple balancing act. Time is running out for you because the operation of coal-fired power plants and the failure to meet climate targets are accelerating climate change: the global temperature is rising. Together, prevent the 2 °C degree limit from being reached!

We associate Europe with a community of values, comprising numerous countries. This political success of the European Union which we take for granted has only celebrated its 70th anniversary. Often, European culture and the individual nations’ diversity drift into oblivion. FACTS is an entertaining guessing game that will make you more closely acquainted with Europe’s diversity in a surprising way.

Districts

Districts is a card game in which you build your own small states. Starting from the center of your state, the main train station, you place buildings and train stations of other districts next to each other. How much money you have available in each round depends entirely on the buildings in your state. Whoever manages to be the first to cover the energy needs of his or her small state exclusively from renewable energies wins the game. But beware! The EU is constantly passing laws and other measures that do not always make your building projects easier ...
The Project.
In this project, which was funded by the Federal Foreign Office, students from the Industrial Design department of the University of Wuppertal set out to design board games that help players understand politic better – through fun, playful and interactive experiences.
Complex topics,
simple rules.
The goal of the project was to educate about politics – through games that are easy to learn, but hard to master.
Always available:
Print and play.
Every game is available as a “print and play” version: for playing at home, for playing at school – or anywhere else.
Open Source.
For an open society.
All games are made available under a modification-friendly Creative Commons license, for easy translations, adaptions and expansions.
